Including the towns of Oakdale & Uncasville
Positioned between the cities of Norwich and New London this town has a fantastic educational system, steady local business and global connections that link all over the world. The history of this town goes back to the early 17th century when there was English settlers, Native Americans and the Pequot people all living in once place. Originally there were tensions between everyone trying to inhabit this place but over the years tensions lowered and these people established separate communities. Today there is even a renowned resort casino run by the Mohegan Tribal Reservation that is right next to this town.
While they did resolve many of the issues with the people of Montville there was also a lot of separation and movement caused by the people fighting over land. In the process settles took over some of the Mohegan lands and there were wars that were fought. It wasn’t until the year of 1786 that Montville was separated from New London and made into it’s own individual town. Along with being split up by native people the town of Montville has been torn apart by colonies who first inhabited the southeast of connecticut.
Another historical mark that put Montville on the map was the use of it’s sawmills and gristmills. During a time when everyone was behind, technologically speaking, this place was developing ideas and working at being more modern. It’s not everyday that you see a communities using machines that were self powered and able to grind grain near high grounds of rivers.
